Local Areas We Cover

Cheltenham is not one kind of housing stock, and what a job costs here depends on which part of it you are in. This is what we tend to find where.

Montpellier

Regency terraces and villas, a lot of them listed or in the conservation area. The wiring is rarely the oldest thing in the building, and that is the point: cable routes have to follow what the plaster and the joinery will allow rather than the shortest line. We plan the runs before we lift anything.

Lansdown

Big Regency crescents and terraces, most of them three storeys over a basement. Long vertical runs, and in a house that has been divided at some point the circuits usually cross the division in ways nobody wrote down. Fault finding here takes longer than the same job in a semi, and we say so when we quote.

Pittville

Large period houses around the park, plenty of them since turned into flats or let out. That means regular inspection reports and boards that need sorting so each flat can be isolated on its own without knocking out a neighbour.

Charlton Kings

A mix: older stone and brick property towards the village end, then inter-war and post-war housing spreading out from it. The older houses are the partial rewires, where sockets were redone at some point and the lighting never was.

Leckhampton

Victorian and Edwardian terraces and villas below the hill, and newer housing above them. The ground rises here, so an outbuilding or a garden supply is worth planning as a proper buried run rather than an extension of something that was already a spur.

Prestbury

Older cottages and larger detached houses on the north edge. Cottage stock is the one where a modern board at the front is often still feeding old cable further back, which is exactly the situation a full inspection is useful for.

Up Hatherley

Post-war and modern estate housing, and by comparison straightforward. Usually a split-load board from the nineties that has done nothing wrong except get old, and normally enough spare capacity for a charge point without touching the supply.

Benhall

Mid-century semis and terraces on the west side. These are the steady board upgrades and socket work: nothing exotic, but worth testing properly because a house of this age has usually been added to more than once.

Electrical work in Cheltenham

What we do in Cheltenham

Cheltenham is about forty minutes from us, so it is work we plan rather than work we race to. That suits the jobs the town actually needs: full and partial rewires, fuse board upgrades, EICRs and landlord reports, EV charge points, sockets and lighting and commercial work. For urgent work, call to check availability.

Everything is priced in writing before we start, and every circuit is tested before we hand it back. Notifiable work is notified to building control the same way it would be at home in Worcester.

Regency and listed property: what changes

The Regency stock is what makes Cheltenham different. Lime plaster does not behave like modern plasterboard: it is softer, it is often on lath, and it does not take a chased channel and a patch without the repair showing. Cornicing, panelling and original joinery are the other constraint, and they are usually the reason a cable takes the long way round. On a listed building the sensible order is to agree the routes first, in writing, so that nobody is making that decision with a chase already cut.

Practically, that means more surface containment in cupboards and voids, more use of existing routes, and floors lifted carefully rather than quickly. It also means a rewire in a Regency house is a longer job than a rewire in a semi of the same floor area, and the quote should say so rather than discover it in week two.

Large period houses, flats and lets

A lot of the bigger houses around Pittville and Lansdown have been divided into flats or are let out. Two things follow. The first is testing: rented property needs an inspection report at the legal interval, and a landlord with several units is better off having them done together. The second is isolation. In a subdivided house the circuits frequently cross the division, so you cannot turn one flat off without affecting another. Sorting the boards out is normally the first job, because it makes every job after it simpler.

EV charging in Cheltenham

Charge points start with the main fuse and the earthing arrangement, not the charger. On the newer estates at Up Hatherley and Benhall there is usually capacity and it is a straightforward day. On a Regency terrace with no off-street parking it may not be possible at all, and we would rather say that on the phone than after a survey fee.

Commercial work in Cheltenham

Shops, offices and the hospitality trade mean fixed wire testing and lighting and emergency lighting. Planned maintenance and out-of-hours testing are both easier to arrange at this distance than a same-day call-out, so that is what we quote for.

We also cover

Gloucester, Worcester, Malvern, Droitwich Spa, Pershore, Evesham and Stratford-upon-Avon.
