Local Areas We Cover

Worcester is not one kind of housing stock, and what a job costs here depends on which part of it you are in. This is what we tend to find where.

St John's

Victorian and Edwardian terraces west of the river, most of them with the meter and board in a hall cupboard or under the stairs. The common finds are lighting circuits with no earth at the switch and a board with nowhere left to take a protected circuit from, which is what makes an EV charger here a two-part job.

Barbourne

The other big terrace district, north along the Droitwich road. Long narrow plots, so a garden office or a garage supply means a proper buried run rather than a spur. Plenty of these houses have been split into flats at some point, and the wiring usually tells you where the division happened.

Warndon

Inter-war and post-war semis, plus the much newer Warndon Villages estate. The older semis are the classic partial rewire: sockets redone at some point, lighting never touched. The newer estate houses are generally straightforward and usually have the spare capacity for a charge point.

Diglis

Riverside, with the newer basin development alongside older housing. Anything at ground level near the river is worth siting carefully: boards and outside sockets belong higher up the wall than habit would put them, and that is a five-minute decision at installation and a large problem afterwards.

Battenhall

Larger detached and semi-detached houses south east of the centre, often extended more than once. Extensions are where circuits get borrowed and junction boxes get buried, so fault finding here more often ends in a loft or above a ceiling than at the board.

Ronkswood

Post-war estate housing, much of it with boards and main bonding from a later upgrade that did not go all the way. Bonding to gas and water is the thing most often found undersized, and it is cheap to put right compared with what it is protecting.

Northwick

Mixed stock north of the centre, thirties semis through to infill. A lot of loft conversions, which means circuits extended upwards and the original lighting circuit doing more work than it was designed for.

Powick

Village south west of the city, and the point where properties start being rural rather than suburban. Some outlying houses here have their own earth electrode rather than an earth from the supply, which changes what an EV charger or an outbuilding supply needs.

Hallow

North west, along the river. Larger plots, detached houses and outbuildings, so a good proportion of the work is armoured runs to garages, workshops and stables rather than anything inside the house.

Kempsey

South of the city on the Severn. Village stock of very mixed age, and the older properties nearer the river are the ones where damp shows up in an insulation resistance reading long before anybody notices it on a wall.

Fernhill Heath

North of Worcester towards Droitwich. Largely post-war and later housing on decent plots, generally in good order, and the most common jobs here are extra sockets, outdoor lighting and charge points rather than remedial work.

Upton-upon-Severn

Small town on the river at the southern edge of the patch. Flood history shapes the electrical advice more than anywhere else we work: sockets and boards mounted high, and anything in a cellar or a ground-floor utility planned on the assumption that water has been there before and will be again.

Electrical work in Worcester

Worcester housing, and what it means for the wiring

The city runs from a Georgian and medieval core out through Victorian terraces at Barbourne and St John's, inter-war and post-war semis at Warndon and Ronkswood, and then into villages like Powick, Hallow, Kempsey and Fernhill Heath. That spread matters because the age of the house predicts the job. A terrace with the original lighting circuit needs a different conversation from a Warndon Villages house that wants a charge point and already has the board for it.

Two things come up here more than anywhere else in the county. The first is boards with nowhere to go: a full consumer unit in a hall cupboard, which turns a simple new circuit into a board job first. The second is the river. Diglis, parts of St John's and Upton-upon-Severn all have flood history, and it changes where a board, a socket or a charge point should be mounted. We would rather raise that at the quote than be diplomatic about it afterwards.

Rewires, boards and testing in Worcester

The Victorian terraces around Barbourne and St John's produce most of the full rewires we do; the inter-war semis more often need a new board and a partial. Student lets and rentals to people working here mean a steady run of EICRs and landlord reports, and the city's older stock is why a fair number come back unsatisfactory on bonding rather than on the wiring itself.

EV charging, kitchens and day-to-day work in Worcester

EV chargers are straightforward on the newer estates and a two-part job in the terraces, where the supply and the board both have to be looked at first. City-centre flats without off-street parking we will tell you not to bother, on the phone, rather than after a survey. Beyond that it is kitchen and bathroom work, extra sockets and lighting, and fault finding when something trips.

Emergencies in Worcester

The phone is answered at any hour and we are based in the city, so an emergency callout in Worcester is a short run. If the whole street is dark, ring 105 first: that is the network's fault, not your wiring, and no electrician can work on the sealed cut-out.

We also cover

Beyond the city we work across Droitwich Spa, Malvern, Pershore, Evesham and, over the county line in Warwickshire, Stratford-upon-Avon.
