Local Areas We Cover

Gloucester is not one kind of housing stock, and what a job costs here depends on which part of it you are in. This is what we tend to find where.

Kingsholm

Victorian terraces close to the centre, most with the meter and board in a hall cupboard or under the stairs. The usual finds are lighting circuits with no earth at the switch and a board with nowhere left to take a protected circuit from, which is what makes a charge point here a two-part job.

Longlevens

Mostly inter-war and post-war semis, and the classic partial rewire: sockets done at some point, lighting never touched. Long back gardens, so a garage or garden office supply means a proper buried armoured run rather than an extension of a spur.

Barnwood

A mix of older property and later estate housing on the east side. The later houses are generally straightforward board upgrades; the older ones are worth testing properly because they have usually been added to more than once.

Hucclecote

Inter-war semis and ribbon development along the main road out towards Brockworth. Solid, predictable work: boards, sockets, lighting and the occasional full rewire where nothing has been done since the house was built.

Quedgeley

Largely modern estate housing, including the newer Kingsway development. Newest stock in the city, so usually a straight board change when the time comes and normally enough spare capacity for an EV charger without touching the supply.

Tuffley

Post-war housing and estates south of the centre. Steady socket, lighting and board work, and a good proportion of it rented, which means inspection reports on a cycle rather than one-offs.

Abbeydale

Later twentieth-century estate housing. Generally simple to work in, with boards that are now old enough to be the reason an inspection comes back with something on it.

Hempsted

Older village core with newer housing around it, close to the canal and the docks side of the city. Anything at ground level near water is worth siting carefully: boards and outside sockets belong higher up the wall than habit would put them.

Electrical work in Gloucester

What we do in Gloucester

Gloucester is about forty minutes from us, so it is work we plan rather than work we race to: full and partial rewires, fuse board upgrades, EICRs and landlord reports, EV charge points, sockets and lighting and commercial work. For urgent work, call to check availability.

Priced in writing before we start, every circuit tested before we hand it back, and notifiable work notified to building control.

Victorian terraces and inter-war semis

The terraces around Kingsholm and the streets near the centre are the oldest of it. In a house of that age the board has usually been changed at least once while the cable behind it has not, and the giveaway is a lighting circuit with no earth at the switch. That matters the moment somebody wants a metal switch plate or a downlighter, and it is the single most common reason a report here comes back with something on it.

The inter-war semis at Longlevens and Hucclecote are the other big group, and they are the classic partial rewire: the sockets were redone at some point and the lighting never was. Splitting the job that way is often the sensible answer, and it is cheaper than a full rewire when the socket circuits are genuinely sound. We test first and say which it is.

New builds, Kingsway and the docks

Quedgeley and Kingsway are the newest housing in the city and generally the easiest to work in: a modern board, spare ways, and usually the capacity for an EV charger without involving the network operator. The converted warehouses and flats on the docks side are the opposite kind of job. Conversions tend to have services run where the structure allowed rather than where you would put them, and in a flat the question is usually what is yours and what belongs to the block.

Landlords and rented property

A good deal of Gloucester is rented, and rented property needs an inspection report at the legal interval and at a change of tenancy. If you have several units it is worth doing them together. We give the report, the remedial list priced separately, and the written confirmation when the work is done.

Commercial work in Gloucester

Units, shops and offices mean fixed wire testing, lighting and emergency lighting and planned maintenance. At this distance planned and out-of-hours work is easier to arrange than a same-day attendance, so that is what we quote for.

We also cover

Cheltenham, Worcester, Malvern, Droitwich Spa, Pershore, Evesham and Stratford-upon-Avon.
